Oatmeal Macaroons

1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup melted shortening
1 egg beaten
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup cocoanut
1 tsp vanilla
1 banana mashed
1/2 tsp soda
1 cup sifted (Robin Hood) flour
Combine the ingredients in the order given.  Drop from a teaspoon on greased baking sheets.  Press down with fork.  Bake in a moderate oven, 350 F 12-15 minutes.  Yield 3 1/2 dozen cookies.

Salada


2 tins tuna
1 1/2 bottles chili sauce
1 bottle catsup
1 tsp worster sauce (worcestershire)
1 small bottle sweet Gergins (Gherkins)
1 small bottle onions
1 small bottle cauliflower
can mushrooms
1 bottle stuffed olives
1 carrot/celery
horseradish
juice 1/2 lemon
cut celery & carrots small.  chunk the tun, mix all together & bottle (2 quarts)

Macaroons

2 cups white sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
Boil 3 minutes
Add 1/2 cup cocoa
1 cup coconut
2 cups oatmeal
Drop on waxed paper by teaspoon.

Chocolate Susans

2 cups white sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup butter
2 tbsp cocoa
Bring above to boiling point
Add 1 tsp vanilla
3 cups oatmeal
Drop by spoonfuls on wax paper to cool

Doreen's Cake

1 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup shortening
2 eggs
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp soda
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup dates, cut fine & floured
1 cup cold water

9x9 pan, 350, 3/4 hr

Peanut Butter Cookies

1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup margene (margarine)
1 egg
1 tsp baking soda mixed with 1 1/2 cups flour
pinch of salt
drop by spoonfuls, press with fork, bake for 10-12 minutes in 350 oven

Butter Wafers & Frosting

1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 cup melted butter
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla

Combine flour, baking powder & stir lightly.
Pour melted butter in mixing bowl, beat in brown sugar.
When well mixed add egg & beat good.  Add vanilla then flour.
Beat good & when smooth, put in fridge for about 15 minutes.
Drop by 1/2 tsp & bake for 6 or 7 min in 325 or 350 oven.


Combine in deep bowl
1 egg white unbeaten
 few grains salt
3/4 cup white sugar
1/4 tsp cream tartar
1/2 tsp vanilla

Add 1/3 cup boiling water & beat until frosting stands in peaks.
Make sure water is boiling hard.



Oatmeal Shortbread

1 1/2 cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp nutmeg
Sift together.

1 1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cup rolled oats

Oven 300 degrees

All dry ingredients
Cream shortening & sugar
Vanilla & rolled oats
Knead until smooth

Chill 3 hours or all night

Cook 20 minutes, put 1 inch apart
Makes 80 cookies

Louise's Short Bread

1 cup butter, beat til light
1/2 cup icing sugar.  Beat again good.

Sift & add
3/4 cup cornstarch
1/4 cup flour
Mix real well.
Don't roll to(o) thin
350 oven for cooking till real light color

Fry chicken til brown, then pour a little water on it.  Cook for while, then if cold, add condensed veg(etable) chicken soup or just chicken condensed.  Warm up all this, chicken is beautiful, also fry liver & then put tin soup over it & stew or boil slowly for hour or so & serve.  It's beautiful soft & tender.

Boiled Mustard For Ham





2 tbsp flour
1 1/2 tsp mustard
1 level tsp tumeric
1 level tsp curry powder (optional)
1 tsp salt
1 egg                                piece butter**
1/2 cup vinegar
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
Mix all dry ingredients together
Then liquid so it don't go lumpy.
Cook till clear.  Bottle.

**Does this mean a "piece of butter" the size of an egg, or a spoonful, or what? 

Wall Paper Cleaner

Mix 3 cups flour
with 1 1/2 cups cold water
6 tbsp salt
6 tbsp vinegar
3 tbsp coal oil

Ammonia may be added in small amount.
Cook over slow fire stirring all the time till cooked well

Shape into balls that can be used in the hand to clean the paper.

Sweet Tart Pastry


Radio, March 1968

1/2 cup soft margarine or butter
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg yolk
1 1/2 cup flour
2 tbsp milk

Beat butter, sugar til light
Beat in egg yolk - add flour then milk
Refrigerate 1 hour

Roll out, cut, put in tart shells
Put in fridge 15 minutes
Bake in oven 10-15 minutes
Cool 5 min before taking them out of tart tins
Oven 375
Fill with anything required.  Do not put back in oven.

To Unshrink Sweaters

1 tsp Borax dissolved in hot water.  Rinse sweater in this, add gallon water warm.  Then rinse in gal water 2 tbsp of vinegar added.  Rinse & pull to shape gently.  Dry.
